Samsung has announced that it will officially discontinue Samsung News on December 21, 2026. According to an official in-app notice spotted by SamMobileSamsung News will completely stop broadcasting content on the shutdown date.

The standalone widget will no longer receive updates and Samsung recommends Galaxy phone and tablet users remove it from their home screen. The left-most swipe panel on the One UI home screen, which previously hosted Samsung News alongside Google Discover, will likely default to exclusively Google Discover.
Samsung further noted that all personal information collected through the Service will be deleted upon termination, retaining only those records required by applicable local regulations.
Launched in 2023, Samsung News was the tech giant’s latest attempt to create a viable rival to Google Discover and Apple News, replacing the old Samsung Free (and Samsung Daily and Bixby Home before that). Despite revamping the reading experience with curated daily briefings and partner syndication, the platform never quite managed to supplant Google Discover as the default feed for most Galaxy users.
Samsung has not announced a news aggregator replacement, indicating that the company is moving away from standalone content curation on Galaxy devices.
