Scoop: Trump’s top national security aides meet secretly at Camp David on Iran and Yemen
Behind the scenes: Vice President Vance chaired the meeting, officials said.
- Other attendees included Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, White House envoy Steve Witkoff, CIA Director John Ratcliffe and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine.
- “Things have been decided or at least discussed in depth,” one of the officials said, referring to the crisis in the Middle East.
- The White House declined to comment.
Driving the news: With negotiations stalled, President Trump is considering resuming major combat operations in Iran.
- “Now I have to make a decision: either Iran signs the agreement or it will no longer exist,” he said on Thursday.
- At the same time, Trump is being asked to join Saudi Arabia’s planned offensive against the Houthis in Yemen.
- Saudis urge president to carry out airstrikes against Houthis. Trump opposes it, but U.S. officials say he may change his mind.
What he says: On Friday afternoon, while his advisers were at Camp David, reporters asked Trump what his next action would be on Iran.
- “If I told you, you’d have a major story,” he said. “But you will see. It works very well. Iran is not doing well.”
