Seahawks planned to use Rashid Shaheed at fullback since training camp
While the Seahawks were thin at running back Sunday, they deployed receiver Rashid Shaheed in the backfield.
He had two carries for 33 yards, including a 28-yard touchdown.
It wasn’t something the Seahawks had cooked up this week, with Jadarian Price on injured reserve and Zach Charbonnet still recovering from a torn ACL suffered in January.
“We’ve been through this in all (training) camps,” coach Mike Macdonald told reporters Monday. “It’s not a quote from (offensive coordinator Brian) Fleury, but it seemed appropriate because (Price) was down, he gave us some speed. It was cool.”
Indeed, it was. Shaheed’s goal-scoring game showcased his speed and agility on an uneven pitch. He is a player who can make things happen with the ball in his hands. The more the Seahawks can achieve this, the better off they will be.
In four games in 2026, Shaheed has seven catches for 73 yards and three carries for 37 yards, plus Sunday’s touchdown. He returned nine punts for 79 yards and 10 kickoffs for 273 yards.
It’s very good. But he needs to get the ball more often.
With the Seahawks adding veteran running back Joe Mixon to the practice squad and signing of running back Robert Henry Jr. Coming off the Commanders’ practice squad, Shaheed might not play in Sunday’s running game against the 49ers — even though he should be.
