Sean McVay: Field goal unit ‘cost us the game tonight’
The Rams fell to 2-3 Monday night, in part because of a few missed field goals from kicker Harrison Mevis — including a blocked field goal in overtime that, if good, would have won the game.
After the game, Rams coach Sean McVay pointed the finger directly at the field goal unit after the 38-35 overtime loss: “It cost us the game tonight,” McVay told reporters.
McVay then said, “I’m going to evaluate everything.”
Last year, McVay fired special teams coordinator Chase Blackburn after Thursday night’s overtime classic in Seattle. This time around, many people should be a little nervous about whether the pink slip might arrive for them.
The clock is ticking. The next game will take place Sunday, against the Cardinals. After that, the Rams visit the Raiders, followed by a home game against the Chargers.
All are winnable, which could propel the Rams to 5-3. Either way, 2-3 (and 1-3 in prime time) is far from where anyone thought the Rams would be after Week 5.
