Holiday hiring is heating up, with several companies saying they will add temporary workers in the coming months, ahead of the holiday shopping season.

Amazon announced that it is seeking to fill 300,000 part-time and full-time seasonal positions in its domestic support operations during the holidays, an increase of 50,000 positions from the same period in 2025. Seasonal employees will earn on average about $20 an hour.

Shipping company UPS announced it would hire 100,000 workers in the coming months, noting that many candidates can get a job offer in less than 7 minutes.

Spirit Halloween, the largest Halloween retailer in the United States, announced plans to employ a record 52,000 associates in its stores.

Poultry company Butterball, famous for its Turkey Talk-Line, also said it is hiring its largest team ever to handle calls coming into its “Turkey Talk-Line” before Thanksgiving.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ October jobs report will be released in November, but data released in September showed hiring increased, although not as much as economists had hoped. Around 29,000 jobs were created in September, compared to 162,000 expected the previous month.

Inflation is also a priority for worried buyers, with unemployment sitting at 4.2%.

According to Indeed Hiring Lab, seasonal postings increased by 10%, more than the same time last year, but job postings for positions in brick-and-mortar stores also declined.

Retail job postings are up 61%, Indeed said, but other positions are also available with loading and stocking jobs up 9%, sales positions up 8% and customer service positions up 6%, as shoppers continue to purchase items online.
