The Democratic senator. Jon Ossoff said Tuesday he will not run for president in 2028 and pledged to serve a full six-year term in the Senate if re-elected.
“I have no interest in running for president. I’m not running for president. I’m running for re-election to the Senate,” Ossoff said during a Georgia Senate debate against Republican Rep. Mike Collins.
Asked by Greg Bluestein from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on whether he would serve his entire term if he wins in November, Ossoff » replied: “Yes, I will. »
The remarks are d’Ossoff the most forceful rejection yet of a potential 2028 presidential run, even as his name has repeatedly cropped up in national Democrats’ conversations about possible candidates for the party’s nomination. His public pledge for a full Senate term Tuesday is the latest in his campaign’s many efforts to quash such speculation.
