Woodfin condemns shooting
Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin said the shooting left the community “hurt, shaken and rightfully angry.” He condemned the violence, saying no argument, argument or misunderstanding could justify it on a night of celebration.
“There is no argument, no disagreement, no misunderstanding that can justify this level of senseless violence on a night of celebration,” Woodfin said. “But hear me clearly: We refuse to let fear shake the spirit of this community.”
Woodfin called the Magic City Classic one of Birmingham’s most treasured events and said its HBCU traditions are rooted in family. He said the community was grieving and supporting neighbors facing “unimaginable pain.”
“Tonight, as a family, we are in mourning,” he said. “And just like our family, we will stick together to get through this tragic night.”
Woodfin said the investigation remains active and promised the city will continue to seek justice. “We will not relent in our efforts until justice is swiftly served for this senseless violence,” he said.
