Actress Sydney Sweeney is taking heat from one of her new co-stars on HBO’s “Euphoria” over her latest commercial for sports prediction platform Novig that leaves little to the imagination.
Speaking to People at Variety’s Power of Women: Los Angeles 2026 event on Wednesday, Sharon Stone, 68, slammed Sweeney, 29, over her viral ad for the platform, suggesting the actress needs to “take responsibility” for her actions after the raunchy video sparked backlash from female athletes.
“I think it’s her place to take responsibility for her actions, not me to judge her for her actions. It’s my place to be a cheerleader for women who have succeeded and become champions of women’s sports,” Stone told the outlet.

“We can’t denigrate women’s sports to get men’s attention so they can play,” she continued.
The advert shows a near-naked Sweeney posing in various provocative positions while holding sports equipment, with the actress telling viewers that the platform allows them to bet “just on sports.”

The controversial video struck a chord with Stone, who told the outlet that while she was in high school, she threatened to sue administrators if she wasn’t allowed to try out for the boys’ golf team, because her school didn’t have girls’ sports teams at the time.
“I had something to prove,” Stone told PEOPLE, adding that she made it “on the boys’ team.”
Stone is not the first celebrity to take issue with Sweeney’s willingness to bare all for the sports prediction platform, with many female athletes also taking to social media to express their displeasure with his decision.
“I can’t describe how furious I feel watching this,” Australian Olympic gold medalist swimmer Ariarne Titmus wrote in a post on Instagram. “How can we live in a world where the monetization of women’s bodies and the sexualization of women’s sports are still relevant?”

British sprinter Amy Hunt also weighed in on controversy after finishing fourth in the 200 meters at the Ultimate Championship in Budapest, Hungary.
“Sydney Sweeney, this is what women in sports look like,” Hunt said. “Muscles, hard work, sweat, blood, tears.”

In response to the widespread backlash, Sweeney shared social media posts featuring nude images of athletes from ESPN Magazine, including Serena Williams, Ronda Rousey, Sue Bird, Megan Rapinoe and Caroline Wozniacki.

Criticism of Sweeney’s raunchy ad drew backlash from Newsbusters editor-in-chief Curtis Houck, who told Fox News Digital that the frank anger over the video might come from a place of jealousy.

“If you listened to Sharon Stone, you would think Sydney Sweeney committed a serious criminal offense carrying a prison sentence, without appearing in a provocative sports betting ad. Give me a break,” Houck said. “This whole thing against Sweeney comes down to one thing: jealousy. Add to that her refusal to get along with the woke left, and she’s persona non grata.”
