Shooting at Solano Town Center Spirit Halloween in Fairfield leaves pregnant woman dead, 6 injured
FAIRFIELD, Calif. — A targeted shooting at a Spirit Halloween store in Northern California left a pregnant woman dead and six other people injured, police said.
Gunshots rang out Friday around 8:30 p.m. inside the store, which sells Halloween costumes and decorations, in downtown Solano in Fairfield, city police said in a statement on Facebook Saturday.
The shooting “stemmed from a targeted incident involving a suspect,” police said.
The deceased woman was identified by police as Constance Hages, 31, and her family members told authorities she was pregnant.
Three male victims, ages 16, 19 and 32, were in critical condition, and a 23-year-old man was hospitalized in critical but stable condition.
Two other men, ages 19 and 43, were treated for gunshot wounds and released from the hospital.
No arrests have been made. Authorities said they were reviewing videos and other evidence “to identify the individual responsible for this heinous act of violence.”
The ministry said no additional information would be released at this time.
“We recognize the concern and uncertainty this incident has created in our community, particularly with the many Halloween events and celebrations planned for today,” the department said. “We understand that an incident of this nature is frightening and deeply disturbing. We encourage everyone to remain vigilant, look out for each other and report any suspicious activity.”
Downtown Solano, which has 130 stores and restaurants, remained open but announced it was canceling its holiday event planned for later today “in light of last night’s event.”
“We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time,” the mall said in a statement.
The FBI’s Sacramento office said it was assisting Fairfield police in the investigation.
Fairfield, a city of about 120,000, is about 37 miles southwest of Sacramento and halfway between that city and San Francisco.
