Shooting in Dublin, California: 77-year-old couple allegedly shot and killed their son-in-law, Jonathan McKinsey

DUBLIN, Calif. — A Dublin, California, man was shot and killed Saturday afternoon in a parking lot near a popular sports complex, and police say the suspects are his 77-year-old in-laws.

Police say Jonathan McKinsey, 40, of Dublin, was fatally shot in the parking lot of the Dublin Sports Grounds, about a block from the police department. Authorities said the suspects, a husband and wife, both 77 years old, were taken into custody. Police have not released a motive.

The New York Times has confirmed that McKinsey is their director of engineering for the New York Times Games.

ABC San Francisco affiliate KGO spoke with several people who saw what happened.

Assad Razawi said he was leaving the Sahara Market on Dublin Boulevard when he heard gunshots coming from the parking lot of the Dublin Sports Grounds.

Razawi said he then saw the victim collapse.

“I saw the guy fall to the ground: his head bleeding and his chest bleeding,” he said.

According to Razawi, he also saw two people who he later learned were suspects leaving the area.

His daughter, Mal Razawi, described what her father witnessed.

“He said the man and woman were walking together and were casually walking away from the shooting,” she said.

Police said a sergeant driving nearby saw a man lying on the ground. Authorities said the victim was shot multiple times.

Officers responding to the scene located the two suspects in a black sedan at a nearby intersection, police said. A witness took a photo showing the suspect in handcuffs.

Investigators later identified the suspects as McKinsey’s in-laws. Authorities have not said what led to the shooting.

The couple is being held at Santa Rita Prison.

The incident left some residents stunned.

“It’s crazy. You don’t hear about these stories in Dublin,” Mal Razawi said. “I was shocked. It’s all confusing. Personally, we don’t often hear about crime in Dublin.”

Police have not released additional information about a possible motive.
