Should Pickford have saved him? – player ratings for Everton vs Chelsea
Emiliano Martinez: The Argentine goalkeeper was lucky not to be punished after taking too long on a goal kick and conceding a corner. He also made a number of saves, although none were particularly demanding. Martinez was then carried off on a stretcher after colliding with Jarrad Branthwaite in worrying scenes. 6
Josh Acheampong: Acheampong looked a threat going forward but was booked for a late challenge on Grealish in the first half. 6
Maxence Lacroix: One of Lacroix’s best performances since his arrival at Chelsea. He saw a header from a corner cleared off the line and defended impressively throughout. 7
Levi Colwill: A relatively calm afternoon for the central defender, rarely disturbed defensively. 6
Pedro Neto: The Portuguese winger scored 43 seconds after the restart after threatening shortly before half-time with a long-range effort. He was involved in much of Chelsea’s attacking play but received an unnecessary warning for dissent. Neto took his second goal well in the 90th after a blocked free kick landed at his feet inside the area. 8
Jordan Henderson: Influential everywhere, contributing in all areas of the field. His set piece performance was solid and he also saw a shot blocked. 7
Moses Caicedo: I relished the physical battle in midfield and almost scored with a superb first volley which hit the crossbar just before half-time. 7
Jorrel Hato: The Dutch defender, Chelsea’s only change from last week’s win, provided the assist on Neto’s opening goal and was in possession. 7
Cole Palmer: A relatively calm display by his standards, although he looked dangerous every time he touched the ball. He tested the goalkeeper early on and then fired an inventive effort over the bar. 6
Morgane Rogers: The club’s record signing showed his competitive edge throughout. His clever backheel played a key role in setting up Chelsea’s goal. 7
João Pedro: A rare lackluster performance from the Brazilian, who had benefited from excellent form before the match. Pedro wasted a good chance to seal the victory in the 86th minute. 5
Submarines:
Mike Penders (out of 74, Martinez): In less than optimal circumstances, the young Belgian goalkeeper replaced the injured Martinez for his Premier League debut. Penders had a good punch from a cross in his first action in the 84th minute, but missed the next one before making a simple save. 6
