Shrek 2 Remastered is real and its release date is less than a month away.
As revealed at today’s conference ID@Xbox showcase for October 2026, Aspyr Media has recreated a cult classic game tied to the original Xbox era for 2026. Shrek 2 Remastered is a modern take on Activision’s co-op video game that will allow players to relive swampy memories when it comes to Xbox Series X/S next month on November 10.
The reveal trailer offers a look at how fan-favorite playable characters and classic moments from DreamWorks’ fairy tale sequel have been enhanced with improved graphics, new features and more. It’s been a while since players have been able to play as Shrek, Fiona, Donkey, Gingy and more, but you can get a taste of what’s to come in the images below.
You may have noticed that the opening isn’t it something from the original Shrek 2. Aspyr took advantage of today’s trailer to acknowledge the elephant in the room: its November release date puts it within spitting distance of Rockstar Games’ release date. Grand Theft Auto 6. Scheduled for release nine days later, on November 19, GTA 6 seems to have convinced most other games to avoid its launch window – but not Shrek.
Instead of filming on a different date, Shrek 2 Remastered is sticking to its November 10th plan. The trailer takes a tongue-in-cheek jab at Rockstar’s latest release, going so far as to not only recreate its Vice City vibe, but even offer its own version of that iconic Grand Theft Auto box set.
THE original video game Shrek 2meanwhile, was launched in 2004 and came to GameCube, PlayStation 2 and original Xbox. While we wait for the remaster to launch in just a few weeks, you can check out a summary of the original experience below:
“Go beyond the movie as you guide Shrek and all his friends in a thrilling four-player team-based action-adventure. Travel through familiar haunts like Shrek’s Swamp. Join the villains as a team and use each character’s special abilities to solve puzzles and complete mission objectives.”
