Silent Hill plans to receive second and third waves of new games
Konami is planning “second and third waves” of new Silent Hill games, according to producer Motoi Okamoto.
Okamoto offered a hazy glimpse into the future of the classic horror franchise during an interview featured in Famitsu Issue 1965 (via Game observer). The series ended a long and painful drought without new games with an initial wave of new releases over the past few years, and now that this first batch is out, Konami is already looking forward to what it can do next.
“The three titles we initially announced were able to be released successfully, so we are relieved (laughs),” he noted. “They have also received a lot of praise and we are happy with that.”
Okamoto continued: “Successfully launching this ‘first wave’ is a big relief, but we are not stopping there; we need to think about the second and third waves. We cannot share specific details, but we are currently studying a number of projects.”
Konami’s first wave of Silent Hill returns – which included titles like the Silent Hill 2 Remake, Silent Hilland last month’s Silent Hill: Fall of the City – deployed in recent years. Townfall arrived as the most recent installment when it put players in the shoes of protagonist Simon Ordell in a 90s Scotland last month.
It received generally favorable reviews, with IGN giving it a rating 8/10. We said, “Like the IV needle that permanently protrudes from its hero’s wrist, Silent Hill: Townfall gives this long-running series a welcome shot in the arm.”
