“1) End the war. 2) Focus on the cost of living and inflation. 3) Put America first. 4) Change our relationship with Israel,” Vance argued, in a missive he personally penned and which marked his first post-election attempt to distance himself from a war that US President Donald Trump has repeatedly defended.

The United States and Israel attacked Iran on February 28 this year, beheading many of its senior leaders. But the Tehran regime retaliated by attacking US targets in the Middle East and closing the Strait of Hormuz – a vital maritime bottleneck for oil and gas supplies – threatening ships trying to pass through the waterway.

The standoff has driven up the price of fuel and fertilizer, driving up the cost of living in the United States and contributing to a brutal voting environment for Republicans, who suffered a generational defeat Tuesday night.

While Vance said “the reason we lost was the war,” Trump insisted the conflict is necessary to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
