‘SNL UK’ ignites Shane Gillis with F-bomb after controversial concert
“Saturday Night Live UK” mocked its sister series in the United States on Saturday, firing last week’s host Shane Gillis for controversial jokes he made about women and for dropping an F-bomb live on air.
Fittingly, the co-anchor of the British program “Weekend Update”, Ania Magliano, dropped an F-bomb at the “Tires” star in return.
“Last week on ‘SNL,’ comedian Shane Gillis also caused controversy by dropping the F-bomb,” she said. “Oh Shane, you have no right to say that you’re a stupid fucking asshole.”
The line was not censored during Sky One’s live broadcast on Saturday because British television follows a “9:00 p.m.” rule, meaning adult content and profanity are legally allowed to be broadcast after that time.
This wasn’t the only search SNL UK conducted at Gillis. The bombshell was preceded by a gentle human interest story subverted by Gillis’ own jokes about women’s sportswear making them look like “whores.”
“A ride operator at the Munich Oktoberfest was praised for handing out free cycling shorts to female riders,” Magliano said. “Wearing sports shorts will protect women from raised skirts, but it will leave them vulnerable to something much worse.”
To that, she posted an image of Gillis opening the Oct. 10 episode of “Saturday Night Live” with his controversial monologue.

Gillis came under fire this week after his guest gig on “SNL,” a program that had already fired him before he struck out on his own. He received backlash for a joke about women at the gym dressing like “whores.”
“I haven’t been to the gym in so long, I didn’t know women dress like whores now,” Gillis joked.
He added: “Look, I’m sorry, there’s no other way to describe it. Have you seen it? I’ve seen it. The shorts. Have you seen the shorts? These neon lights, they’re like artificial color bait. And the wrinkles go around the cheeks and they all combine at the asshole. And don’t look, you’re not allowed to look. For real, don’t look because they’re filming. I’m in background of about 10 TikToks, right now.”
Celebrities and “SNL” alumni like “Schitt’s Creek” creator-star Dan Levy and former cast member Ego Nwodim ridiculed Gillis for the moment, while “Weekend Update” host and “SNL” writer Michael Che was more reluctant to join the dog pile.
“It’s comedy,” Che said. “It’s like you think it’s funny and some people don’t.”
