SNL UK: Trump surprises James Austin Johnson during a Cold Open
Donald Trump made his first appearance on “SNL UK,” courtesy of “SNL” cast member James Austin Johnson.
Saturday night’s cold open recreated British Prime Minister Andy Burnham (George Fouracres) meeting with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy (Freddie Meredith) to reaffirm Britain’s support in their war with Russia.
“We need America to restore Starlink Internet. Without that, we are vulnerable to drone strikes,” Meredith’s Zelenskyy said. “Plus, it’s very difficult to broadcast “Celebrity Traitors.” I’m very late, no spoilers, but I think Richard E. Grant is going to see it through to the end.
Fouracres responded as Burnham: “Well, I can promise you now that I will raise all of this with President Trump at the first opportunity.”
Johnson then appeared with his perfect Trump impression, marking the first crossover between the casts of “SNL UK” and “SNL.” “Did someone say Richard E. Grant?” he said.
“President Trump?!” Exclaimed Burnham from Fouracres.
“It’s true, you say my name and I appear,” sad Trump of Johnson. “I got the idea from my very close friend Beetlejuice, the late, great Beetlejuice. It’s one of two ways I’m like him, the other is a sex pest – allegedly they can’t prove he did that stuff.”
When asked why he was in the UK, Johnson, as Trump, said he was in town “to see my favorite comedian” who is “performing live in the High Court as a defendant”, referring to the Russell Brand trial.
Johnson’s Trump then explained that he hoped to do a job swap with Burnham. “I take over the UK, you take over America,” he said. “I’m telling you, this place is a complete disaster, you’re going to hate it. It’s a horrible, horrible job. It’s a terrible place full of disgusting people, I don’t know what happened. Come on, trade jobs with me!”
Fouracres as Burnham replied: “I can’t trade jobs with you now, cocker spaniel! I’ve barely started. People don’t even hate me yet!”
Johnson’s Trump then launched into a rant about things he could fix in Britain, including the fact that M&S offers too many variations of Percy Pigs.
“And what about British comedy, folks? What a bad situation, it’s not going well,” he continued. “‘SNL UK,’ you’re telling me you don’t have guys – the whole cast, you don’t have one guy who can play Trump? What a horrible situation. Some of these people went to RADA! What is the Royal Academy of Dogshit Actors? Ooh, you can talk shit about that one! It was really good.”
Johnson and Trump ultimately backed out of the job swap, saying, “Fine, I’m going home. And Zelensky, let me know if you need anything, anything. As long as it’s not war aid.”
Added Fouracres as Burnham: “Sorry Zelenskyy, old scoffer. But as dire as things are, what matters most is that we all be nice to this crazy man.”
