What you need to know

  • SNLThe Weekend Update mocked President Trump for losing the Nobel Peace Prize and his reaction to the announcement.
  • The segment also satirized Pete Hegseth’s suggestion to livestream the execution of the Fort Hood shooter and criticized the new War Department logo’s resemblance to Nazi imagery.
  • Hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che used humor to highlight recent controversial statements and actions by Trump and Hegseth.

Saturday evening live’“Weekend Update” mocked President Donald Trump losing the Nobel Peace Prize and Pete Hegseth’s willingness to livestream the firing squad execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan.

In the Saturday October 10 episode of SNLColin Jost and Michael Che took aim at the POTUS and the Secretary of War during their “Weekend Update” segment.

“Unfortunately, we have to start tonight with a tragic story involving President Trump – no, not that,” Jost began. “Unfortunately, President Trump didn’t win the Nobel Peace Prize. I know, but don’t worry. I think he’s taking it all in stride.”

SNL then we cut to a clip of Trump declaring: “The Nobel Prize was awarded today to a liberal person who works at the United Nations who no one has ever heard of. »

At this, Jost laughed and pointed out: “He’s really angry that he didn’t win the peace prize. Trump kidnapped the president of Venezuela, and then he waged so much war that we ran out of missiles, and he was still thinking, ‘This is my year.’

He then joked: “It’s really like I think I could win an Oscar for Tom and Jerry.”

Che later reported that Nobel Peace Prize winner Navi Pillay had joked with the crowd at a conference in Germany that “if they applauded a little more, she could share this prize with Trump.” He added: “Which is a harmless little joke that might inspire Trump to bomb any country he thinks she’s from.” »

Additionally, Che discussed the upcoming execution of the Fort Hood shooter, which Hegseth said would be broadcast live. He joked that it would be “the first public execution in the United States since, I want to say, a few weeks ago.” The screen then showed a photo of ICE agents on a porch.

Meanwhile, Jost reported that Hegseth was being criticized after unveiling the War Department’s new logo “which features an angular eagle similar to that used by the Nazis.” He joked, “Hegseth asked how upset people were about this on a scale from here to here,” as he gestured up and down.
