‘SNL’ Weekend Update Roasts Trump’s Ballroom and Kristi Noem’s Divorce
Saturday evening live‘s Weekend Update mocked Donald Trump’s under-construction White House ballroom, former Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s divorce and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s new military standards.
Co-anchor Michael Che began by pointing out that the president now claims the controversial White House project — which is being built atop a six-story bunker — will feature “weaponized drones.”
Che, in a child’s voice, continued: “And a moat, and an elevator, and a Wazer gun, and a giant pool of water.”
Che then turned to Noem’s split this week from Bryon Noem, to whom she had been married since 1992.
“I guess we’ll never know why,” Che joked, months after the revelation of Bryon Noem’s cross-dressing, an example of which was shown on screen.
Co-anchor Colin Jost then spoke.
“Kristi Noem said she was sad about the divorce, but she was still happy to separate another family,” he joked.
Weekend Update also took aim at Hegseth’s speech to the military, describing his ideal makeup of the army: “no fat people, no trans people, no bearded people, no weirdos, no wimps, no radicals.” »
“So he basically bans Mike Myers’ entire career,” Jost joked.
Trump-backed Texas Senate candidate Ken Paxton also became a punchline.
Che cited an Associated Press report that Paxton, Texas attorney general since 2015, had made more than 275 trips out of the state during his tenure.
“Wow,” Che responded. “That’s a lot of abortions.”
