Sophie Cunningham responded Wednesday after Democrats destroyed the midterm elections and reclaimed the House and Senate from Republicans.

The impending Indiana Fever free agent shared a post from entrepreneur Andy Frisella to his Instagram Stories, lamenting the ability of individuals to “better behave.” The message added that “personal excellence is the ultimate rebellion.”

“One of the strangest things about our culture is how much confidence we have in elections to change our lives and how little confidence we have in our own ability to do the same. People will spend months arguing over who should run the country while spending zero time thinking about how they could run themselves better…and THAT is a much bigger problem than most people realize,” Frisella’s post read.

“Because the strength of a country is ultimately a reflection of the character, discipline, and standards of the people within it. That’s you. Politics is downstream from culture. We can continue to change officials, pass new laws, and debate which party has the answers…but until we change the culture that fosters, produces, and tolerates the problems we have as a society, nothing fundamentally changes.

“A population of weak, unhealthy, uninformed, dependent people is far easier to control than a population of strong, healthy, educated, self-reliant people. Your responsibility is to become the exact opposite of everything they want for you to the best of your ability. Your REAL best. In my opinion, that is our obligation as Americans.

“A culture of personal excellence is the foundation of a great country. There is no election, politician, policy or law that can replace that…and the best thing about it is the same behaviors that make you a better American and also improve your own life quickly. If we want a better America…It starts with better Americans. There is no other way. Personal excellence is the ultimate rebellion.”

Cunningham has been reluctant to enter the political fray as the midterm elections heated up with President Donald Trump giving him a shout-out at a rally in Ohio last month.

The goalkeeper caused a stir when she delivered a simple message about protecting women’s and women’s sports midway through the 2026 season.

“I’ve gotten a lot of negative comments about hating trans people. And I’m like, ‘I’ve never said that once,'” Cunningham told ESPN in an article published over the summer. “I think I’m here to extend love. But I also think that love is truth, to be honest. And I want to protect young girls in the locker room, or young girls in sports who shouldn’t have to deal with biological men.”

“I’m really in the middle. I agree with things on both sides, I don’t agree with things on both sides,” Cunningham continued. “And that’s all I’ve said about my political beliefs. But people like to assume.”
