Juno Beach Pier closed indefinitely due to damage from high waves and high winds
The Juno Beach Pier is closed indefinitely after high waves and strong winds damaged its deck panels. Video footage shows high waves in the Atlantic Ocean pounding the pier, the result of king tides and strong winds in recent days.
The waves caused several deck panels to shatter in several locations along the pier.
Although the exact number of damaged panels is unclear, the video suggests that more than a dozen panels were affected.
The pier will remain closed for the foreseeable future due to the extent of the damage.
Ocean Ridge advises caution during tidal flooding
The Town of Ocean Ridge is warning residents to use caution as tidal flooding affects the area.
“Be careful when traveling. Avoid driving on flooded roads as much as possible. Remember that these are salt water floods, which can cause corrosion and damage to your vehicle,” the city said.
Authorities also advised residents to pay attention to the depth of floodwaters. “Never underestimate the depth of flood waters. If you experience flooding, consider an alternate route and allow extra time to reach your destination,” the city said.
The municipality encouraged the community to remain vigilant. “Please stay vigilant, travel safely, and help us keep our community safe!” » says the city.
Boynton Beach provides sandbags as king tide flooding threatens homes
The town of Boynton Beach is offering free sandbags to its residents as high tides threaten to cause flooding in the area, with a coastal flood warning set to go into effect at midnight.
Since Sunday afternoon, city officials have made sandbags available for self-service pickup in the south parking lot of Harvey E. Oyer Jr. Park, at 2010 North Federal Highway.
King tides occur when the gravitational pull of the moon and sun combine to create high tides, often flooding streets. Although common in Palm Beach County, flooding can surprise newcomers to the area.
Residents are asked to avoid driving or walking through standing water and use alternate routes to avoid flooded roads.
