South Park is returning to Comedy Central Wednesday night after a two-week hiatus, and it appears season 29 will stick with the show’s name change to South America as Butters wades into the controversies surrounding AI.
The latest episode of the satirical animated series could abandon politics in favor of pointed commentary on the world of technology, as data centers powering artificial intelligence suck up resources. Butters, the beloved fifth wheel of main characters Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny, is “unhappy with the data centers billionaires are building in our backyards.”
This logline, released Tuesday by Comedy Central, suggests that a few familiar faces from Silicon Valley could appear in South Park. But who would do? Peter Thiel previously visited the town in the fan-favorite Season 28 episode, “Twisted Christian,” although he didn’t really feel like the series was done with the character. Other possibilities include Sam Altman, Mark Zuckerberg or, of course, Elon Musk.

South AmericaThe creators of have already dealt a blow to the tech world this season, confusing some of the industry’s giants over their near-immediate compliance after the Trump administration renamed Lake Ontario Lake America. The move led to the show’s name change, which Trey Parker and Matt Stone explained in a September 8 press release: “Inspired by the courage and patriotism of Apple and Google, we are changing the name of South Park to ‘SOUTH AMERICA.’
The final episode of the Emmy-winning series airs Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central and will stream on Paramount+ and On Demand following the premiere.
