‘South Park’ takes on billionaires, AI, anti-vaccines and Trump

In the second episode of Season 29 of “South Park” (or rather “South America”), an eager Butters sets out to rid South Park of “billionaire weenies” — who, it turns out, are actual penises — when their data centers begin to get in the way of him and his favorite thing: Dr. Pimple Popper.

Due to data centers being built in his backyard, Butters’ television is constantly losing power, making him unable to relax in front of videos. “And you know why our power went out? Because of those damn billionaires building data centers right in our backyards,” Butters shouted. “All these little billionaires do is suck up all our resources and leave us with nothing.”

Butters’ parents, for their part, begin to fight over their child’s anti-billionaire and anti-AI beliefs, which they believe must be the result of the measles vaccine Butters received for going to school. “I knew what this vaccination would do to him because I listened to podcasts,” his father shouted. “But you couldn’t take time out of your precious day to listen to podcasts, could you? And now your son is a libtard.”

Turns out the little billionaires in Butters’ backyard are exactly that: little billionaires. But tensions are rising in their own city as some billionaires are being too public, including appearing on Joe Rogan’s podcast. “Now that we’re growing so quickly, we have to be careful,” the weenies leader said. “So many of us are billionaires now; maybe we’re starting to bore people. That’s why I’ve talked before about the importance of not drawing attention to ourselves.” When Butters calls an exterminator to get rid of the billionaire city and its data center, he explains, “This is a new breed of billionaire. They like to go on podcasts and publicly argue with Mark Ruffalo.”

As Butters continues to try to rally the town against the billionaires, the Fools must take matters into their own hands by buying the local media to stabilize their public enemy, “like any good billionaire should do.” “But now, can anyone tell me who came out and publicly argued with Macklemore? Damn, we had it figured out,” the frontman said. “I bought the news so we could make each other look nicer, then a little penis decided Macklemore needed a good talk… Nobody cares what you think about Macklemore.” (The comment was an attack on Robert Kraft, the billionaire owner of the New England Patriots who made headlines earlier this month for what amounted to a ban on the rapper performing at a number of stadiums while he was on tour with Ed Sheeran.)

It wouldn’t be an episode of “South Park” without an appearance by Trump, and of course, the audience got a glimpse of the president at the very end. As he sits down to go to the bathroom (while listening to his own speeches), his own billionaire weenie flies out of his unzipped pants.

After the start of the second episode, it appears that creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are moving forward with the “South America” name change, which was announced earlier this month ahead of the season 29 premiere. (The move was a comedic insult to Trump’s recent moves to rename places such as Lake Ontario to Lake America, New Mexico to New America, and the Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America.)

The premiere – the first episode since it was renamed “South America” – attracted 4.2 million viewers in three days, Variety previously reported.
