Now, SpaceX plans to use Qualcomm’s Dragonwing cellular infrastructure, a platform comprised of hardware and software designed to improve network coverage, capacity and efficiency. SpaceX plans to combine this infrastructure with its constellation of direct transmission satellites.
“Together with SpaceX, we are building world-leading cellular infrastructure in the United States, advancing 5G today,” said Durga Malladi, executive vice president and general manager of technology planning, edge solutions and data centers at Qualcomm. He adds that companies have the opportunity to “lay the foundations” for 6G in the years to come.
