  • A new Avengers: Apocalypse promo abandoned during game 1 of the MLB World Series.
  • The footage previewed the impending multiversal cataclysm that would hit theaters this December…in a particularly baseball-centric way.
  • Robert Downey Jr.’s Victor von Doom puts his powers on full display.

The end of the world is near… and it is already on the diamond.

Marvel took advantage of the MLB World Series to release a new Avengers: Apocalypse seen during Game 1 on Friday, between the Milwaukee Brewers and the Tampa Bay Rays. The promo was made specifically for the game and featured Marvel characters on the field. Other familiar faces to baseball fans also appeared. Watch below.

Directed by returning Marvel filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Apocalypse sees heroes from three distinct realities collide as they all face an immense threat posed by Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.). Plot details were spread across various trailers and bonus scenes included in the Avengers Endgame: Again theatrical release.

Doom hails from the universe containing the Fantastic Four. Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby) explains how the man known as Victor von Doom “was kind” and “caring” before “everything he loved was taken away from him”, referring to the deaths of his wife and son.

New post-credits scenes from End of game re-tease the tease that Doom could attack the Marvel multiverse itself by causing different realities to collide.

The huge cast (and more to be confirmed) will include Patrick Stewart (Professor Charles Xavier), Ian McKellen (Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto), James Marsden (Scott Summers/Cyclops), Rebecca Romijn (Raven Darkhölme/Mystique), Alan Cumming (Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler) and Kelsey Grammer (Hank McCoy/Beast), reprising their roles from the live-action original. X-Men quality films.

The film will see these characters mingling – and fighting – with those from the Avengers and Fantastic Four universes. The latter are represented by Kirby (Sue Storm), Pedro Pascal (Reed Richard/Mr. Fantastic), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm/Human Torch) and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm/The Thing).

Doctor Doom raises the Sentinels in “Avengers: Doomsday.”

Marvel veterans Chris Evans (Steve Rogers/Captain America), Hayley Atwell (Peggy Carter), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Paul Rudd (Scott Lang/Ant-Man), Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson/the new Captain America) and Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier) will also be in attendance.

Representing the Love at first sight* casting.

From the Wakanda/Talokan corner are Letitia Wright (Shuri/Black Panther), Winston Duke (M’Baku), Tenoch Huerta Mejia (Namor the Submariner), Alex Livinalli (Attuma), and Mabel Cadena (Namora).

Also confirmed are Channing Tatum (Gambit), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Kathryn Newton (Cassie Lang), Danny Ramirez (Joaquin Torres/the new Falcon) and Wesley Holloway (undisclosed role).

Avengers: Apocalypse premieres in theaters December 18.
