“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is re-released with new images, Variety has confirmed, although details on the content of these new scenes remain under wraps. A release date has also not yet been revealed.
“Brand New Day,” released on July 31, was the box office story of the summer. The superhero blockbuster grossed $2.49 billion at the domestic box office, making it the third highest-grossing film of all time behind 2009’s “Avatar” ($2.92 billion) and 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame” ($2.88 billion) and ahead of 2022’s “Avatar: The Way of Water” ($2.3 billion) and 2019’s “Titanic.” 1994. ($2.2 billion).
On September 16, “Brand New Day” eclipsed 2015’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” as the highest-grossing domestic film of all time. “The Force Awakens” set the record with $936 million, a benchmark that had stood for more than a decade. “Spider-Man” took the crown after earning $936.773 million in just 47 days in North American theaters.
The final milestone left for the Marvel-Sony tentpole is to become the first film to surpass $1 billion at the domestic box office alone. “Brand New Day” currently stands at $950.6 million in North America, meaning the record would likely be out of reach without the re-release.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” follows Tom Holland’s Peter Parker as he tries to rebuild his life after a spell made his friends and family forget who he was. Other cast members include Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal, Jacob Batalon, Mark Ruffalo, Tramell Tillman and Florence Pugh. Destin Daniel Cretton directed the film with a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.
