“Spider-Man: Brand New Day”: reissue with new images in preparation
Spider-Man: A Whole New Day fans may soon have a new reason to snag another ticket to the record-breaking blockbuster.
A theatrical re-release is in the works at Sony Pictures which would add previously unseen sequences, including a scene involving Rosario Dawson that was not made in the version released on screens on July 31. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed. No theatrical release date has yet been revealed for the potential re-release which is expected to include additional, unspecified footage.
Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink and Jon Bernthal star in director Destin Daniel Cretton’s superhero film, which is the highest-grossing title ever at the domestic box office with more than $950 million. It also ranks third all-time worldwide with $2.49 billion. Originally from Marvel Studios, Spider-Man: A Whole New Day continues to progress at the box office, collecting $4.1 million domestically over the most recent weekend.
This news follows that of Marvel Studios Avengers Endgame: Again after dominating the domestic box office over the weekend, with the re-release of the 2019 box office hit grossing $26 million to trump a slew of newcomers. This re-release was timed to generate additional enthusiasm for Disney’s release of Avengers: Apocalypse on December 18.
At a fan event in July, Dawson told the crowd that she filmed a scene for Brand new day as Claire Temple – the Marvel character she previously played on the series Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luc Cage, iron fist And The defenders – but ended up in the editing room.
“My character is somewhere in that same universe, and I really like that,” Dawson said at the time. “I hope I can be Claire again.”
Spider-Man: A Whole New Day is poised to become the first title to top $1 billion at the North American box office, meaning the re-release could push it over the edge. End of game is located just above Brand new day in second place in the world rankings, the recent return of the first to theaters having brought its worldwide sum to 2.885 billion dollars.
Deadline previously reported on the reissue.
