‘Stand in line’: Donors adopt new tone to help Paxton
For months, Republican donors insisted they didn’t want to fund Ken Paxton Texas Senate Race After President Donald Trump endorsed him for his longtime position John Cornyn.
For them, this decision was made bail out Paxton the responsibility of the president.
But the polls deteriorated in the weeks leading up to the midterm elections, so much so that many of those same donors dropped their objections. The only thing that matters now, they say, is maintaining the Senate – by any means necessary.
The shift underscores the perilous state of the GOP, which finds itself facing a darkening map where “fires are everywhere” and which perhaps portends the loss of several Senate races in the states Asset won by double digits two years ago.
