Starting grid for the 2026 Mexico F1 Grand Prix after penalty and disqualification of Max Verstappen
Lewis Hamilton will start the Mexico Grand Prix from pole position, the race that could crown Kimi Antonelli as Formula 1’s youngest world champion.
Hamilton claimed a first pole for Ferrari and the 105th of his F1 career after a stellar lap late in qualifying, with George Russell joining him on the front row.
With an incredibly long descent to Turn 1, third-placed Charles Leclerc has an excellent starting position, while Antonelli starts fourth.
Max Verstappen lines up fifth following a one-place grid penalty for an incident during second practice with Liam Lawson.
Lawson also received the same punishment, but starts from the pit lane after initially being disqualified during qualifying for a technical infraction, then with Racing Bulls choosing to change PU components and make modifications to the suspension setup.
Reigning world champion Lando Norris is the best McLaren finisher in sixth, with his teammate Oscar Piastri 12th after a disaster in the second part of qualifying.
There is also a significant, but meaningless, grid penalty for Cadillac’s under-pressure Valtteri Bottas (50 places).
