“Jon & Kate Plus 8” star Kate Gosselin entered the conversation after her son, Collin Gosselin, alleged in a new memoir a pattern of abuse, isolation and neglect in her care.
In a Saturday, Oct. 10, social media post, in which Kate Gosselin shared a personalized mug and discussed the health of her dog Koda, viewers began flooding the comments with reactions to Collin Gosselin’s recently released memoir “In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood.”
A TikTok user sympathized with the mother of eight. “It should be illegal to defame someone like this, but I just wanted to say you are doing a great job keeping your head up through all of this,” the user wrote. “We love you!”
In response, Kate Gosselin agreed with the commenter and wrote, “I know that logical or rational people or anyone who has struggled with mental illness understands what is going on here. »
In another comment, a user wrote that Collin Gosselin would “regret all this one day,” to which Kate Gosselin replied, “Exactly! I had nothing to do with it other than consent because it was medically necessary. »
Representatives for Kate Gosselin did not respond to USA TODAY’s request for comment.
In Collin Gosselin’s memoir “In the Shadow of Eight,” he provides new information about an alleged runaway attempt, a basement bedroom, the time his mother tied him up and time spent in a behavioral institution.
In an interview with USA TODAY, the sextuplet said he hasn’t spoken with his mother since her more than 20-month stay at Fairmount Behavioral Health System. He began living with his father Jon Gosselin and sister Hannah Gosselin in 2018.
The Gosselin family has already argued online. Kate Gosselin had already mentioned the news of her son’s memoir in the comments of a June 29 TikTok post, where she discussed her personal life. When a user encouraged her to “sue him,” Kate Gosselin responded, “I can’t (because) I’m a public figure. The rules are different, unfortunately, or I (definitely) would!”
Kate Gosselin previously claimed in a July 2023 Instagram post that Collin Gosselin had “multiple psychiatric diagnoses” and that for the safety of his family, she placed him in an institution. She also wrote her decision, influenced by doctors, following an alleged explosion, involving “the use of a weapon.”
Collin Gosselin denied both claims and spoke to the US Sun to reveal a medical evaluation found he did not meet the criteria for six psychiatric diagnoses.
Kate Gosselin starred in “Jon and Kate Plus 8” from 2007 to 2009, alongside her then-husband Jon Gosselin, her twin daughters Madelyn and Cara Gosselin, and sextuplets Alexis, Aaden, Joel, Hannah, Collin and Leah Gosselin. The show then aired as “Kate Plus 8” from 2010 to 2016, following a high-profile divorce from Jon Gosselin in 2009.
