Steelers trade Joey Porter Jr. to Cowboys
Last year, when the Cowboys realized linebacker Micah Parsons wasn’t going to play without a new contract, Dallas traded him.
This year, the Steelers apparently realized cornerback Joey Porter Jr. wouldn’t play without a new contract. And so they trade it.
According to multiple reports, the Steelers are sending Porter to the Cowboys.
Full terms have not yet been released. The separate question will be whether the Cowboys give Porter the contract he couldn’t get in Pittsburgh.
Dallas could decide to opt out in 2026, with Porter earning $3.924 million. They could then apply the franchise label in 2027.
It’s hard to imagine the Cowboys trading for a player who apparently has no plans to play until he gets a new contract.
The common connection between Porter, a 2023 second-round pick, and Parsons is that both are represented by David Mulugheta of Athletes First. Mulugheta also represents wide receiver George Pickens, who was traded by the Steelers to the Cowboys in May 2025.
The Cowboys did not re-sign Pickens. For 2026, they tagged it. For escrows, the franchise offer is well below market value. This is also for cornerbacks.
Much will be revealed in the coming hours. For now, the most important point is that the impasse between the Steelers and Porter ended with Porter being sent to a new team.
