With just three days until the start of a new season, Curry has reportedly agreed to a two-year, $116 million extension, the team announced Friday night, shortly after a report from ESPN’s Shams Charania. The extension will begin during the 2027-28 season and will give Curry a player option for the 2028-29 season.
Curry is taking a discount to stay with the only franchise he’s ever known. He is expected to make just over $62.5 million in the upcoming season and could have signed for as much as $136.7 million if he had chased down every last dollar. While the average salary of $58 million for the two new contract years is still a lot of money, Curry is leaving more than $20 million on the table with the two new seasons.
If Curry plays the 2028-29 season with Golden State, it will be his 20th season with the franchise and would make him the fourth player in NBA history to play 20 or more seasons with a single franchise. (The others: Dirk Nowitzki’s 21 seasons with the Mavericks, Kobe Bryant’s 20 seasons with the Lakers and Udonis Haslem’s 20 seasons with the Heat.)
Curry was first eligible to sign an extension on August 29. Over the next four weeks, the lack of signing led to Curry being asked multiple times about his contract desires. Never mind that Curry has told everyone who asks that his intention is to stay in Golden State and be a one-franchise player. Until Curry signed the new deal, he would be asked about it and speculation about why he didn’t sign would only intensify.
Now, with the new NBA season kicking off with training camps next week, Curry can avoid all those questions and just focus on basketball.

The Warriors are scheduled to kick off the new season on Monday, with the team hosting a media day in San Francisco before flying to Hawaii for a week of training camp practices on Oahu, culminating in a preseason game against the Clippers.
