Strong winds and rough waves along the east coast
Impact Weather Alert: Strong winds and dangerous waves are creating hazardous conditions along the Treasure Coast and Palm Beaches today.
Impact weather creates dangerous conditions across the Treasure Coast and Palm Beaches on Sunday.
A wind advisory is in effect for parts of Indian River County, with sustained winds of 20 to 25 miles per hour and gusts of up to 40 miles per hour.
Wind gusts of around 30 miles per hour have already been recorded this Sunday morning from Sebastian and Vero Beach south through Jupiter, West Palm Beach, Boynton Beach and Boca Raton.
Meanwhile, a high surf advisory remains in effect along the Atlantic coast, where seas are expected to reach seven to 12 feet. Rough waves create dangerous swimming conditions, a high risk of rip currents and the potential for beach erosion.
Forecasters are also monitoring an area of the Atlantic with a 30% chance of tropical development over the next seven days, although no immediate impact on Florida is expected.
Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items, use caution on roadways and stay away from rough ocean waters.
