Subway shooting victim identified as Darell Rodriguez of Bronx
The man shot to death on a subway platform this weekend has been identified as a 26-year-old from the Bronx.
Darell Rodriguez was shot in the chest around 12:20 p.m. Saturday at the 53rd Street/7th Avenue subway station in Midtown Manhattan by an unidentified stranger who then fled the scene, New York police said.
According to sources, Rodriguez was on his way home from his job as a security guard at the front desk of a Manhattan building.
He was waiting for a northbound E train to go to his home in University Heights in the Bronx when his killer approached him, showed his gun and shot him once, police sources told the Post.
The two men had a dispute over the platform, although the details remain unclear, NYPD Deputy Chief Keith Shine said Sunday.
The killer then left the station heading north on 7th Avenue and remains at large, according to police.
He was last seen wearing a red tracksuit, a black vest, a face mask and a backpack.
It’s unclear whether the killer knew his victim, but police stressed the shooting was targeted.
Rodriguez was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival shortly after 1 p.m., police said.
Rodriguez’s shooting marks the seventh murder in New York’s transit system this year and the fourth gun death, compared to two during the same period in 2025, according to NYPD statistics.
