Supermassive Games suffers layoffs as more than 70 developers appear to have left the company this week
Supermassive Games – the developer behind games such as Directive 8020 and the original Until Dawn – appears to have lost more than 70 employees today in massive layoffs within the company.
Supermassive Games previously announced their arrival in August. In a statement posted on social media, the developer wrote: “We have made the difficult decision to begin a redundancy consultation process, which we believe will result in the loss of 75 of our colleagues. This is a necessary step to ensure the sustainability of our business.”

It appears that this layoff process is complete this week, as former IT and Facilities Director Frank Tindle announced his departure on LinkedIn while bidding farewell to other Supermassive employees in the same position as him.
“More than 70 brilliant people are leaving Supermassive: developers, artists, producers, QA, operations and more. Any studio would be lucky to have them. If you’re hiring, send me a private message and I’ll do the pitching.”
This is not the first time Supermassive has suffered job cuts in recent times. In July 2025, the studio announced that up to 36 employees would be laid off, saying the reductions would allow them to “adapt our team structure to better align with recent industry changes.” This resulted in the delay of Directive 8020, a game that would release in May.
That game proved divisive, the studio’s first dive into sci-fi horror tearing a lot between a stellar cast of characters and grinding stealth gameplay. Yet the studio continues to release unique narrative titles for an audience of passionate fans. Hopefully the tough times are over for Supermassive and those affected by these recent layoffs get back on their feet.
