Susan Collins ad money spent in Portland, Oregon instead of Maine – NBC Boston
A Republican political group trying to boost Maine Sen. Susan Collins’ re-election campaign mistakenly spent nearly $25,000 on ads targeting voters in the wrong state, according to NBC News.
Costly confusion? The ads ran in Portland, Oregon instead of Portland, Maine.
The ad buy, which refers to Maine Democratic Senate candidate Troy Jackson as “taxing Troy Jackson,” was placed by Defending Main Street SuperPAC Inc., which is associated with the Republican Main Street Partnership.
Sarah Chamberlain, president and CEO of the Republican Main Street Partnership, said she was “absolutely furious” about the mistake her ad buyer made. She said the ad was pulled in Oregon after the group learned of the mix-up and the ad buyer, Cross Screen Media, said it refunded the money to the PAC.
“The buyers made a mistake on one of the investments,” Chamberlain said. “It’s down now and they’re running it in Portland, Maine. It has nothing to do with us. I would never run a commercial in Portland, Oregon, for Susan Collins, for God’s sake.”
