Sylvester Stallone plans to see his life story told on the big screen in upcoming biopic I play Rocky.
The film, which premiered to great fanfare at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this month, is a follow-up to the 1976 film. Rockywith Anthony Ippolito playing a young version of Stallone as he develops and pushes the film through a tumultuous production.
In a conversation on 92NY Monday promoting his new memoir The stepsStallone responded to the project, admitting that he was initially “a little mixed because I’m like, ‘I’m not dead yet. Aren’t we jumping the gun a little bit?’ And then I saw this video of this kid (Ippolito). In fact, I thought it was me at first; there were several angles. I go to my daughter and say, “This is incredible. »
The star stressed he had “nothing to do” with the Peter Farrelly-directed film. “I said, ‘I’ll just sit back and watch.’ I spoke to the child. Elsewhere in the conversation, Stallone talked about what it was like for him to watch the Rocky films now (“It’s like you’re looking at a picture of yourself, everyone loves it, but you’re going to (groan)”) and revealed he was trying to convince Amazon to let him recut the 1990s. “It bothers me a lot because I know I took my foot off the accelerator,” he said, noting that he should have realized it himself and that “I should have been more conscious of not trying to be cool with the audience.” He joked that if he’s able to do a recut, “it’s not going to be great. It’s going to be acceptable.”
Stallone was also questioned by the moderatorCBS Sunday morningIt’s Tracy Smith, if he thinks he could reach the top of Hollywood if he started today.
“It’s a whole different ideology there… I don’t think so. It’s a whole different state of mind,” he replied. “The actors look different. They act different – not the mentality, but the subject matter is not something I could relate to. Like the action right now is kind of anachronistic.”
He continued: “For example, if you were to do The godfather today try to launch it. Impossible. The premise is that it happened at a certain time, and that’s why that makes it so unique. So a lot of times when they do remakes, they basically forget that this movie was based on the social climate, the thing, the look, the ethnicity, everything that was happening at that time.
