Teen arrested after argument over smoking led to deadly Midtown subway shooting
MIDTOWN, Manhattan (WABC) — A 17-year-old is under arrest in connection with the fatal shooting of a 26-year-old man at a Midtown train station over the weekend.
The teen, who has not been identified because of his age, faces charges of murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
Investigators say an argument over smoking marijuana on a subway train appears to have led to the fatal shooting.
The shooting happened Saturday afternoon at the 7th Avenue-53rd Street police station, where Darryl Rodriguez was shot in the chest and killed.
Detectives believe the suspect was smoking marijuana on the train when Rodriguez confronted him, sparking an argument that escalated into gunfire.
This is the seventh homicide committed in the city’s metro this year, compared to four at the same time last year.
