Teen killed in car crash identified as Atrisco Heritage Academy student
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The teenager killed in a car crash Saturday night in Albuquerque has been identified by her family.
Keyarah Chavez, 15, was a passenger in a Ford Mustang that ran a red light and crashed into a pickup truck at Coors Boulevard and Bridge Boulevard. Keyarah died in the accident.
In a GoFundMe page started by Keyarah’s mother, Davona Chavez, she remembered her daughter and said she “had her whole life ahead of her.”
“Our lives have been changed forever and the pain of losing my child in this way is something no parent should ever have to face,” Davona said. “She was an A and B student, played flag football for Atrisco Heritage Academy and was a happy, spirited little girl who had her whole life ahead of her. We are deeply grieving and trying to take things one moment at a time while coping with this unimaginable loss.”
Davona is raising $8,000 to help pay for Keyarah’s funeral and support the family during this time. As of 1 p.m. Monday, they were about a third of the way there.
Meanwhile, the drivers of each vehicle were seriously injured in the accident. A 16-year-old girl in the Mustang with Keyarah was also injured, putting her life in danger.
The accident remains under investigation.
