The Chicago Cubs have three or four Silver Slugger finalists
This year’s list of finalists for baseball’s best offensive seasons includes three players from the Chicago Cubs (and the team as a whole, so count as you see fit), each deserving of some recognition and each — I think — truly in the mix to win a Silver Slugger.
The National League finalists:
The Cubs are in the mix as the best offense in the National League, which is what they should get if you followed the slash line (.251/.339/.428/114 wRC+, the best in baseball (as well as the best wOBA)). The 850 runs scored by the Cubs were also baseball highs.
In the outfield, Pete Crow-Armstrong has led the National League in just about everything, so he needs to be there. Seiya Suzuki certainly deserved a runner-up spot, considering he’s in the top ten for home runs, RBIs, runs, and wRC+. James Wood is going to take one of the other two spots, so it really comes down to whether Suzuki gets that third spot.
At third base, Max Muncy has Alex Bregman by a run in wRC+ and a home run, but Bregman has the lead in runs and RBIs, as well as doubles and triples. It’s a very close call.
