Emmanuel Macron came to the Vosges, to Mirecourt, at the end of November 2025, in front of an audience of 250 readers from our press group and young people from Lorraine to defend his wish to ban social networks before the age of 15. The President emphasized this evidence that before this age these platforms “are not a good thing because we are not sufficiently consolidated emotionally, emotionally and cognitively. The brain is not mature to be exposed to that.” He subsequently initiated an accelerated procedure so that this ban applies from the start of the 2026 school year. The decision of the Constitutional Council to censor the law presented at the end of January is therefore obviously a setback for the resident of the Élysée who intended to make this public health issue a flagship measure at the end of his mandate. However, the substantive subject remains on the table.

The risks of exposure to toxic, violent, inappropriate content, cyberharassment and also disturbances in sleep are a reality for a large part of young people and for parents who are often helpless in the face of this scourge. Following this snub, the head of state has just commissioned the government of Sébastien Lecornu to rework a legislative framework. It should lead to a reform just before his departure from the Élysée. The text will be based on the EU legislative proposal expected at the start of the school year and whose ambition is not to prohibit but to constrain, by shifting the burden of responsibility borne by families to digital platforms. Force them, in particular, to prove that their services are secure for minors. The first lever is to act on these algorithms which lock young people into information bubbles causing anxiety and the risk of addiction. In the meantime, the Sages grant them a stick of immunity to boost their algorithms and suck young people into the infernal spiral of the “For you” thread.
