Federal agents and law enforcement partners are embarking on operations in Queens, Staten Island and Brooklyn on Tuesday, the FBI said.

Federal law enforcement sources told CBS News New York that the operations were linked to allegations of health care fraud.

Video from a storefront on Eighth Avenue near 41st Street in Brooklyn shows at least eight people wearing clothing intended for law enforcement. Some images show agents wearing jackets emblazoned with “HSI,” which stands for the Department of Homeland Security Investigations.

HSI confirmed that its agents were participating in “court-authorized law enforcement actions in parts of New York City as part of ongoing criminal investigations.”

Governor Kathy Hochul discussed the operation.

“I want to welcome another massive effort to combat fraud and abuse, this time within the Medicaid program. This morning, the New York State Department of Health and the Medicaid Office of Inspector General joined state and federal law enforcement in a coordinated crackdown on suspected fraud and adult day care welfare programs. This is an active investigation, so there are limits to what I can share today. but I can tell you it went on for months working closely with the federal government,” Hochul said. “We target vendors who we believe are engaging in illegal activities, ranging from money laundering, bribery, improper invoicing, and other fraudulent activities.”

“New York has zero tolerance for anyone who steals from taxpayers, because every dollar lost to fraud is a dollar that should be used to help New Yorkers get the care and services they desperately need. So my message to anyone who seeks to cheat the system, we will find you, we will prosecute you, and we will hold you accountable,” Hochul added.

A police source confirms there is a second location they are investigating, in Borough Park, at Fort Hamilton Parkway and 51st Street.

CBS News New York has reached out to City Hall and other agencies for comment. CBS News New York also contacted the company listed at the activity’s address, but the calls went straight to voicemail.

This is a developing story. Check back soon for more information.
