The new Apple TV could have a built-in microphone and remote control with speaker
The latest rumors say that the new Apple TV will have a built-in microphone, while the upgraded remote will have a speaker. The mic would allow users to control the set-top box using Siri without having to talk to the remote or a connected HomePod device. It could also allow the Apple TV to serve as a simple smart home hub – controlling thermostats and locking doors – without needing to fumble for the remote.
If you misplace the remote, the new built-in speaker should make it easier to locate. It could play an audio alert to guide you to its location, whether it was carelessly kicked under the couch or a child mischievously hid it in a drawer.
This is in addition to the upgrade to an A19 chip that will power Siri AI. The Apple TV is expected to go on sale on October 30, alongside the updated HomePod Mini.
