A nationwide recall of pasta sold at Walmart has been expanded to include more products that may be contaminated with listeria, according to the Food and Drug Administration.
Certain batches of frozen pasta, sold under Walmart’s proprietary Bettergoods brand, were first recalled on September 15 after routine testing revealed the presence of bacteria in the products. The manufacturer, Gias Foods, Inc., expanded the recall on October 1 to include all lots.
Listeria is a harmful bacteria that can cause serious illness or death in some people, including children, the elderly, and pregnant women. Although it is more dangerous for certain groups, listeria can make anyone sick, which is why the FDA recommends against eating affected products.
Here’s what you need to know about the pasta recall.

Which Walmart pasta has been recalled?
Frozen pasta comes in yellow plastic containers with expiration dates printed on the back of the package. They were sold in Walmart stores nationwide.

What to do with recalled pasta

What are the symptoms of listeria poisoning?
Listeria poisoning is a foodborne bacterial infection most commonly caused by the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). It is considered a serious illness and can be dangerous or even fatal, especially when contracted by adults over 65, people with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women.
Symptoms usually appear within two weeks after eating contaminated food, but can appear as early as the same day or up to 10 weeks later. According to the CDC, symptoms include:
- Fever
- Muscle pain
- Headache
- Stiff neck
- Confusion
- Loss of balance
- Seizures
- Diarrhea
- Other gastrointestinal symptoms
- Miscarriage, stillbirth, premature birth and/or life-threatening infection of newborns
- Death
People in high-risk categories who experience flu-like symptoms within two months of eating contaminated food should seek medical attention.
