The RTX 5080 and RX 7900 XTX showed almost identical FPS in Ace Combat 8 ​​​​​​​​at 4K

We conducted a detailed comparative analysis of the latest NVIDIA GeForce RTX and AMD Radeon RX series graphics accelerators in the Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve flight simulator. The project is developed using a modern graphics engine. Unreal Engine 5 using Nanite virtualized geometry systems and Lumen global lighting. Hardware testing was carried out on our reference platform running Windows 11 24H2 operating system with DirectX 12 graphics API. To eliminate the influence of the processor on the final results, the rack was equipped with a high-performance AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D chip. We compared all video cards with maximum detail settings in a native resolution of 3840×2160 without scaling.

In native 4K mode, the game puts a strain on graphics cards. The only model to break the comfortable 60fps barrier was the flagship GeForce RTX 5090, with 54 minimum frames and 60 average frames. Second place went to the previous generation GeForce model. RTX 4090, which showed 44 frames for rare events and 48 frames on average. Mid-range models cannot handle heavy workloads: for example, the GeForce RTX 30Le 60 produces only 10 minimum frames and 12 average frames, while the popular GeForce RTX 4070 maintains an average of only 22 frames.

The main result of our tests was the performance of AMD’s previous generation flagship. The Radeon RX 7900 The gap between them was only a frame. In addition, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX on the RDNA 3 architecture confidently outperformed the latest model Radeon RX 9070 XT. Based on the RDNA 4 architecture, it achieved 29 minimum frames and 32 average frames. AMD’s flagship also outperformed both versions of the GeForce RTX 4080, which recorded 36 frames per second on average.
