An entire studio closes
The video game industry was hit hard today with the latest announcement that studio Bioware is closing. The creators of Mass Effect and Dragon Age are completely shut down, and The Sims players are probably wondering what this means for the future of their beloved franchise.

We’ve been reporting relentlessly on the developments of The Sims Project In their own words (obtained by Variety), development of The Sims Lotus Project has been paused. Our portfolio choices
Across our portfolio, we make deliberate choices to align talent and investments where we see the greatest opportunities for players and long-term growth.
In Lifestylewe’re focused on the long-term potential of The Sims and skateboarding. We will be prioritizing our efforts on “Project Evergreen” for The Sims to give the team more time to reach the full potential and vision of the game, and to make this possible, we are pausing development on “Project Lotus”. For skate., we’ve had a lot of success engaging players in the game, and we need to create an experience that keeps them engaged for the long term. To do this, we are making changes at the studio to have a more focused, smaller team tasked with implementing a very clear roadmap for our community that we believe will build a healthier, more sustainable business.
Building the EA we believe in
The decisions we make about our priorities, how we work, and our portfolio reflect our confidence in EA’s future. Some open up exciting new possibilities. Others are difficult, especially for the people and teams within the company who are directly affected. In these cases, we will help affected employees explore other opportunities within EA, and we are committed to treating affected colleagues with care and respect.
We’re sure there will be questions about what these changes mean for individual teams and for EA in general. You can speak directly with your leaders to learn more about this, and we’ll be sure to spend time discussing our direction and the work ahead at our next global town hall in November.
The last few months have reinforced our belief in what EA can become. We have amazing people, franchises that matter to millions of players, and opportunities to create experiences we’re only beginning to imagine.
Full declaration
It appears to be the first green light EA has given the Maxis team, already spooked by the closure of its sister studio, to move forward and impress the judges with a new Sims base game.
Project X has an internal deadline
The Sims insider who shared all the gossip about The Sims Evergreen Project (or Project
According to this same Sims insider, EA has already given Maxis studio a deadline to deliver The Sims Project Evergreen by September 2027.
Here’s all the latest gossip they delivered on this new single-player game The Sims last month:
Project a deadline of September 1, 2027 has go to gold. Maxis believes it can meet this deadline.
The game is going to primarily focus on supporting handheld devices such as the Steam Deck and Rog Ally.
DLC games will be sold exclusively through a marketplace, with various encryptions and measures to make piracy almost impossible.
There is no official classification for Project
Project René is ready to go but has been put on hold, EA is unsure if the game builds enough on the Sims 4 brand to make enough sense to release it, but may give the green light at any time. The last name I heard was “The Sims Together” or some variation of it.
Freeplay’s GamePass worked well and there may be options to integrate it into X.
They are experimenting with AI beyond development, where the game may be able to intelligently identify a mod conflict or issue, but also potentially block a mod that might cause an issue or cause the mod to break, and alert the user which mod is broken and ask them if they want to remove it. This can extend to the ability to determine if certain files ripped from the game are incorrect or modified, causing additional issues.
Will the team deliver on the promise of open districts, deeper simulation, and better graphics and make it all worth it? Let us know what your hopes are from The Sims Evergreen Project in the comments below and stay tuned. on the Sims community for the latest news to come!
