The long-talked-about expansion The Bridgerton Chronicles The universe is a reality: Netflix has given the green light to an untitled spin-off chronicling the early life of young Lady Violet and her romance with Viscount Edmund Bridgerton. The widowed matriarch of the Bridgerton family is played in the series Mothership by Ruth Gemmell.
As Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton StoryThe Violet prequel will be a limited series from franchise producer Shondaland. Shonda Rhimes writes, produces and co-presents with her. Queen Charlotte collaborator Nicolas Nardini. This is the first time that Grey’s Anatomy the creator has written a series since its creation and executive production Queen Charlotte.
Rhimes wrote all but one episode of the 2023 limited series, which was written by Nardini who also co-wrote another with Rhimes.
While Queen Charlotte was an original creation based on characters from the The Bridgerton Chronicles Julia Quinn novels adapted into the hugely popular Netflix series of the same name, there is source material for the Young Violet series in the form of violet in bloom, a short story by Quinn which tells the love story of Violet and Edmund.
Queen Charlotte Director/executive producer Tom Verica returns in the same capacity for the new limited series. Shondaland’s Betsy Beers also serves as executive producer.
Talk about another The Bridgerton Chronicles the prequel limited series began shortly after the successful May 2023 launch of Queen Charlottewhich briefly hijacked Netflix’s list of most popular English series. Queen Charlotte featured older versions of Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel), Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh) and Violet (Gemmell) from The Bridgerton Chronicleswhich leads the other two main suspects to headline their own prequel.

Verica told Deadline in January that The Bridgerton Chronicles the characters receive the Queen Charlotte treatment with more spin-offs in development.
From Queen Charlotte followed the romances of Lady Danbury alongside Charlotte’s marriage as the Queen’s confidante proved unlucky in love, Violet, with her ‘happily ever after’ love affair, emerged as the character most likely to have her own spin-offs.
After lengthy development, the project began gaining momentum several months ago, with speculation growing that it would be the first series to be greenlit under the new long-term overall deal Rhimes signed with Netflix in August.
The expansion of The Bridgerton Chronicles The universe is a key part of Netflix’s relationship with Shondaland, as it has become a lucrative business generating significant revenue in areas beyond streaming, including consumer products and live experiences. On Netflix, seasons 1 and 3 remain on the most popular list, at 7th and 10th place, with season 5, which shines the spotlight on introverts Francesca Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd) and Michaela Stirling (Masali Baduza), currently in production in London.
Underscoring Netflix’s commitment to the franchise, the streamer built a special studio for Shondaland to film it in the UK.
