“The whole list is missing the reformers that the United States would like. And some seem to be even more of the business-as-usual type,” said one of the participants, an administration official.
The UN is choosing a successor to the secretary-general Antonio Guterreswhose second and final five-year term ends this year. The 81-year-old organization is facing a questioning of its mission from the Asset The US administration, which reduced US contributions, withdrew from several UN organizations – including the World Health Organization – and created its own body – the Peace Council – to take charge of planning for the future of the demolished Gaza Strip.
The United States – like other permanent members of the Security Council – has the ability to veto any candidate for this position.
