The American State Department accused, Monday July 20, the communist government of Cuba of carrying out decades of actions of “subversion” against the United States, by denouncing pell-mell an infiltration of the state apparatus, its Marxist influence and its “anti-American international. »

This new report, without major revelations, is a way for Washington to increase pressure on Cuba, in addition to its oil blockade, new sanctions and the indictment of former president Raul Castro (2008-2018).

Since the overthrow in January of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, an ally of Havana, the administration of Donald Trump has raised the threat of direct intervention on the island located approximately 150 kilometers from the coast of Florida.

Cuba led a “a long war of attrition organized around espionage, infiltration, sabotage, parallel networks and a revolutionary infrastructure designed to turn America against itself”estimates the State Department in its report. Washington says Cuba managed to infiltrate its diplomacy and its defense ministry “for decades, undetected” and, this, “at the highest level. »

“An extraordinary threat”

The cases of infiltration of Cuban agents into Washington, already known, are numerous, such as that of Ana Montes, an analyst for the American military intelligence services, in reality a spy for Cuba, arrested in 2001. The CIA, for its part, has attempted on numerous occasions to assassinate Cuban leaders.

The authors of the report published Monday also accuse the communist government of having “builds a vast revolutionary network” on American soil, from the Black Panthers yesterday to the radical left today. They claim that Cuba still has ties with “powerful left-wing associations, anti-ICE collectives”the much-maligned immigration police, or even “socialist groups”. The State Department thus repeats the rhetoric used by Donald Trump to portray his opponents accused of extremism.

The president says Cuba represents “an extraordinary threat” for the United States. He repeatedly threatened to “take control”. Marco Rubio, his head of diplomacy of Cuban origin who took the lead in this campaign, affirmed in May that the United States was “determined” to impose change on the island.
