Thieves steal $10,000 worth of frozen beef in latest Philadelphia cargo heist
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Thieves made off with pallets of frozen meat during a second cargo heist this week in Philadelphia.
Police responded to the 6200 block of Milnor Street in the city’s Tacony neighborhood shortly after 5 a.m. Thursday after a large truck driver reported someone had broken into his trailer.
The driver said he was sleeping at the time and when he felt movement in the back seat, he knew something was wrong.
He says they received several pallets, with a few cases of beef found scattered in the nearby parking lot.
“I knew there was nothing I could do,” the driver told Action News.
Police estimate the loot is valued at around $10,000.
The driver captured cellphone video of the suspect vehicles, described as a dark gray Nissan sedan and two dark-colored SUVs. Police are also searching nearby cameras.
This comes after 3,000 pounds. Crab legs were stolen Tuesday from a tractor-trailer in Southwest Philadelphia.
This merchandise theft occurred around 4 a.m. Tuesday in the 3600 block of Island Avenue.
The driver said he was caught on the run by the suspects after trying to confront them during the robbery.
The investigation into both continues.
