
Threats have placed several schools in the ABC13 area under surveillance and security
(WSET) — Several schools in our area were closed or secured on Wednesday.
According to an Amherst County Public Schools spokesperson, several school divisions in our area have received bomb threats.
ABC13 has confirmed that the following schools were or are on hold, closed or evacuated:
- Amherst County Public Schools – secure status has been lifted
- Altavista Combined School- the school was evacuated and the students sent home
- Franklin County High School – lockdown lifted
- Franklin County Middle School – lockdown lifted
- Rocky Mount Elementary School – lockdown lifted
- Christian Heritage Academy – lockdown lifted
- Heritage High School – secure status has been lifted
- Heritage Primary School – secure status has been lifted
Local police work with schools to investigate potential threats.
Bomb threats, whether real or false, have serious consequences,” said an ACPS spokesperson. “Not only do they cause widespread fear and anxiety, but they also prompt immediate and necessary actions to keep everyone at our school safe. Additionally, threats create an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty among students, parents and staff. »
